Why I love my mac
I have a much easier time putting down my words on the computer than I do on paper, for the simple reason that I can’t write quite as fast as the words stream through my head. However, writing on the computer has it’s perils, specifically, the vast array of procrastination otions available to me with the press of a button or two. Enter Hog Bay Software, enterprising indie software developers, who have a great freeware product called WriteRoom. From the blurb on their website:
Walk into WriteRoom and your busy computer life fades away. The distractions of e-mail, the web, and your thousand desktop icons are gone. Only you and your text remain. This is a place where work gets done and procrastination has no place. When you’ve finished exit your WriteRoom, and you are back in the busy world with your work in hand.
I can’t express how amazingly awesome this is. It makes it that much easier to get into the writing groove that makes churning out five-to-six page papers a lot less agonizing than when you have AIM, email, Facebook, and a whole host of other, funner [sic] things visible in the background. You can also change the color of the text and background area to whatever you want. You can click the screenshot below to get a screen-full of my paper on Alban Berg’s violin concerto, if you’re so inclined.

Writeroom is amazing. I was just using it a second ago and it was awesome. Thanks for the tip! It’s just like the old days, when you used to send me widgets…
