After a late-night soap-scum-scrubbing, mattress-chucking-down-stairs, cleaning and packing extravaganza I am officially on my way home.  The plan is:

  • Tonight, staying with slightly cooky but wonderful family of friends of the family, watching the olympics and eating mint chocolate chip cookies
  • Tomorrow, bus to Indianapolis to crash with Lara and probably watch more olympics
  • Saturday, taxi to the airport at ass-o’clock in the morning, get into Boston around 11, which, according to Jue, is before he will be awake.
  • Saturday and Sunday nights, playing with Bangor folks and Maddie and co, crashing with Tony
  • Monday, back to Maine with Nick.

The road is long and, in what is becoming a somewhat unfortunate trend, rather poorly planned.  In particular, I remember thinking that it would be better to schedule my Indianapolis-Boston flight super early in the morning, because that way I would be sure to get into Boston early enough to catch the Bangor bus.  Apparently I forgot that a) it is hard to get to the airport for a 6:30 am flight when you don’t really know anyone there and there isn’t really any public transportation and b) there are approximately a dozen places I could stay for free in Boston.  But, as Coach E would say, that’s neither here nor there.  Plans, however poor, have been made and they have been set in motion.  Books and bedding and other miscellanea have been shipped, along with my bike (only $38!! to ship a bike from Indiana to Maine! You go, FedEx), and it looks like the Burnham Rentals people were happy with our cleaning job.

Of course, once I get home, more plans need to be made, for moving back to Williams and oh, hey, that whole grad school thing, not to mention finishing up at Williams and all that that entails.  I’m not feeling worried about those things right now, just reveling in the relief of being pretty much done with this whole summer experiment and on my way home.  Even if I’ll only be there for, what, a week?

Also, I do realized I’ve posted this picture before, but it fits just too perfectly with the fascinating aesthetic of moved-out-of rooms, emptied of personal things.  Also, I think it was from my “Hello, Bloomington” post, which means there’s some nice symmetry involved, too.

  1. Nice blog. I don’t remember how I stumbled across your blog (perhaps the WordPress frontpage?), but the “Kleinschmidt” name caught my eye! It’s nice to see other Kleinschmidt’s running around in the world.

  2. Any Dave sightings expected in or around the Arlington area? …you’re always welcome
