Awesome miscellanea

Freelance science and health journalist and mental_flosser Maggie Koerth-Baker is guest-blogging at boing boing. So far she’s got posts on how to colonize a nation, a proposed expedition to the center of the earth, and Scutigera coleoptrata, the house centipede (including such fun facts as

1 cup of coffee
1 “bagel ‘n schmear”
1 GRE vocabulary book
1 package Nestle Toll House Semi-sweet Morsels
0.56 pounds green beans
1 seedless watermelon

I consider the watermelon my great triumph of the day, despite the fact that, as it turns out, watermelons are quite heavy and do not fit easily into small backpacks.
A life update is on the [...]

Paresky is open and it is wonderful.  The food is good too; they serve whole-meal plates and make it right in front of you!  It’s wonderful to be able to hang out and study and have that coffee-shop background noise, but still be in a campus building surrounded by just about everybody you know.

Tomorrow will officially be the first skiing day of the season for me, which is also very exciting.
I found [...]

I will do them soon, though! Things I did do today included having my JA interview, which was all different kinds of fun/exciting/anxiety-inducing, not to mention my group’s [...]

Knee deep in stuff to do, but taking a bit of a break to jot down a selection of what I’ve been seeing/doing:

Today/last night it snowed! I woke up to that particular kind of light that you only see when it’s snowing: bright, diffuse, and completely pure.
The snow that’s already fallen gives everything a [...]

(in no particular order:)

Seeing my sister for the first time since she went away to college!
Seeing my family for the first time in almost three months
woodstoves, dogs, and baked goods
getting hurt again (grrrrr)
running with Jue and Tony and finding out that I’m sort of in okay shape
playing frisbee at broad-effin-way and finding out that my [...]

Oh, and I think I want to study abroad somewhere in central Asia (Tibet/Mongolia area).  We had a screening of Saltmen of Tibet tonight for my Tibetan Civ. class, and actually seeing the places we’ve been reading about etc. was pretty awesome.  It seems so sparse and windy and flat and mountainous and breathtaking.  Plus, [...]
